I started The Gravy Train in 2009 because my husband ("the hubby") and I moved from Washington, DC to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. My husband's job took him there; my devotion to our new marriage took me. I left behind our friends and family and put my career as a lawyer on hold to, as I put it lightly back then, take a ride on the gravy train and live it up as an international lady of leisure. The blog started out as a chronicle of our new life and evolved into the food-centered roller coaster of emotions that it is today.
While living in Malaysia, I gave birth to a little boy, whom I call The Gravy Baby on this blog. We're delighted that he loves eating as much as his parents do. In 2013, we added another little eater to our clan, a baby girl whom we've nicknamed Gravy Too.
We moved to Charleston, South Carolina in 2011. I grew up in the state, and it's great to be home. Still, I haven't forgotten what I learned while living overseas. My career, while important, isn't the only part of my identity, and every day I remind myself to focus less on accomplishing and more on doing. That's what I strive to make this blog about -- focusing on the delicious life we all live, whether it's through food, family and friends, or just plain laughter. Thanks for following along as I cook, eat and travel my way through the Deep (fried) South!
