Listen up, Charleston - there's an event where you get to eat some of the best food from around the country AND watch short films about it. I KNOW.
The 2nd Annual Charleston Food Film Fest is happening from April 24-26, and the festival promises barbecue on the USS Yorktown, a "food porn" party featuring a sampling of all sorts of delicious local and "imported" foods (such as the famed compost cookies from Momofuku Milk Bar in New York) and an "Edible Adventure" night in which the creator of the famous Ramen Burger (a meat patty sandwiched between layers of ramen) makes his delightful invention for everyone to sample.
This festival happens in other cities, too, and what I love about this event is that it features local foods as well as foods I've been meaning to try from other parts of the country. Take, for example, the Momofuku Milk Bar compost cookie. The last time I had one of these, it was before the kids were born. We'd actually started our morning with some pork buns from the original Momofuku next door. As much as I love me some pork buns, I have to be honest with you - pork buns + early morning + compost cookie chaser = not my happiest place. It probably also doesn't help that I ate about seven other meals that day because we only had 12 hours in New York and I tend to get freaky about food in New York, especially under extreme time constraints.
As if you need any more convincing, the organizers of the Food Film Fest are offering a 10% discount on tickets to all Gravy Train readers! Yes, you read that right. Just enter GRAVY10 in the "promotional code" box at checkout.
And yes, I'll be at some of the events -- so -- if we run into each other, will you promise not to judge me if I've got barbecue sauce smeared all over my face? Maybe we can just side-eye each other a little and pretend like neither of us wore stretchy pants and a bib? Because I totally do not plan to do that. At all.
